In celebration of the National Day of Racial Healing, the Chatham County Parks & Recreation Department partnered with the Greenbriar Gym to present a powerful and uplifting evening of culture, creativity, and community connection. Designed to honor the spirit of unity and reflection, the event brought together local artists and performers whose talents highlighted the richness of cultural diversity within the community.
Attendees experienced an engaging lineup of performances featuring Sankofa Dance Theatre, Tybee Ballet Theatre, the Nun-Fula Drum Ensemble, poets K. Harmon and Carry Smith, and The Harambee Ensemble of Greenbriar. The evening served as a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where dialogue, culture, and history intersect. Stephanie Davis, Recreation Leader for Chatham County Parks & Recreation, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “Being in a place like Savannah with such a rich civil rights history, it’s very important that the people of Savannah see that we are a very diverse city.”
Through dance, spoken word, and powerful percussion, each performance reflected the program’s theme, celebrating humanity through rhythm, expression, and shared experience. Support for the program was provided by the National Recreation and Parks Association and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, whose missions align with promoting equity, community engagement and opportunity.
