If you’re looking for some community fun this summer, you won’t have to travel too far from home. With five events scheduled through July, Chatham County Parks and Recreation’s Rec n’ Roll series is bringing the fun straight to your neighborhood.
“The goal of the Rec n’ Roll series is to bring recreation programming directly to our neighborhood parks and their surrounding communities. Most residents don’t live in immediate proximity to a public recreation facility, so we want to offer an opportunity to participate in great fun at no cost,” said Chatham County Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Maxime Pierre. “This directly supports our mission to create recreation activities that all residents can partake in.”
The kick-off event at Bertha Mae Cummings Neighborhood Park on May 30 will also serve as a pre-Juneteenth celebration with African drumming, storytelling, a drum-making workshop, and more. Other activities for the series include interactive games, crafts, giveaways, music, and much more.

Recreation Leader Kelly Leeks encourages the community to come beat the summer heat during the Rec n’ Roll Summer Splash event at Retha Mae McCoy Park on June 27.
“Get ready for waterslides, bubbles, STEAM activities, and free ice cream for everyone,” she said. “Chatham County Parks and Recreation Rec n’ Roll events are all about fun, connection, and making memories together!”
Pierre said there is no better way to connect and engage with Chatham County residents than to meet them where they are and encourages everyone to come and join the fun.
“I hope the community gets the engagement and fun that they deserve and know that we can show up and support them and have fun anywhere in Chatham County,” he said.
