Get ready to reel in the fun during the 15th annual Gage Ochsner Kids Fishing and Water Safety Event Saturday, September 26, at the Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion.
The event is open to children ages 5 to 13. Group one will begin at 9 a.m., followed by group two at 10:30 a.m. Registration is now open online, and there is no cost to participate.
Hosted by the Chatham County Aquatic Center (CCAC), the event teaches children how to enjoy activities in and around the water safely while also enjoying a morning of fishing at the Tybee Island pier.
The event carries on the legacy of Dr. M. Gage Ochsner, Jr., an avid fisherman and advocate for preventing childhood injuries. Ochsner, who died in 2013, was the former chief of trauma and surgical critical care at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
All participants will receive a free fishing rod, reel, and tackle box. Kids will also visit educational booths to learn about water and life jacket safety before going fishing. The event is catch-and-release, and lunch will be provided for everyone.
