Lake Mayer

Located at Montgomery Crossroads and Sallie Mood Drive, Lake Mayer Park is one of Chatham County’s most active and diverse recreation areas. At its heart is a scenic 35-acre freshwater lake, a natural habitat for local wildlife and a popular spot for fishing, boating, kayaking, windsurfing, and paddleboarding. A pier and boat ramp make access easy for all visitors.

The park features two open-air pavilions—one overlooking the lake and a smaller one near the playground, restrooms, picnic areas, and BBQ grills. Both pavilions, along with the newly refurbished, air-conditioned community building, are available for rent and regularly host Parks and Recreation programs such as yoga, dance, crafts, games, senior activities, and seasonal community events (see the Lake Mayer Community Center Page).

Sports enthusiasts will find lighted tennis, pickleball, basketball, and handball courts available for evening play. The lighted roller rink is home to competitive roller hockey games, while the adjacent skate park offers challenges for skateboarders of all levels. For more than 30 years, Phil Hurd Raceway has welcomed remote-control racing fans to the “controlled mayhem” of their thrilling events.

Encircling the entire park is a 1.5-mile paved walking path with a cushioned running lane. Benches and picnic tables are placed throughout for rest stops, lakeside lunches, or simply enjoying the view. Free and convenient parking is available on site.

Park Hours: 7 days a week / 8am-10pm 

Pet Policy: Pets not allowed in park buildings, on athletic fields or courts.  Dogs are allowed if on a leash no longer than 6 feet.  Owners must clean up after their dogs and must not leave dogs unattended at any time in vehicles or elsewhere in the park.

Service Animals: Allowed when serving in a working capacity in accordance with the Revised Americans with Disabilities Act Service Animal Requirements.
