Description
Notice:
McQueen’s Trail will be closed to the public beginning August 3, 2026, until further notice as Chatham County begins a restoration project to repair damage caused by Hurricanes Debby and Helene. Updates will be provided as the project progresses and information becomes available regarding the trail’s reopening. Residents and visitors are asked to respect the closure and avoid entering the trail area while work is underway.
Often referred to as Savannah's Rails 2 Trails, McQueen’s Trail is just over six miles of shell and crushed rock bordered by palm trees, native plants, and the Savannah River.
Built on the footprint of the old Savannah & Atlantic Railroad tracks that transported beachgoers to Tybee Island before the construction of Highway 80, McQueen’s Trail boasts endless views of salt marsh, tidal waters, and native wildlife.
Motorized vehicles are not permitted, but the long, level trail is a local favorite for walking, running, bicycling, and fishing.
